The Roche Molecular Diagnostics' virology product portfolio is based on the company's Nobel Prize-winning real-time PCR technology. The company's quantitative tests for HIV-1, Hepatitis B & C, and cytomegalovirus provide actionable health information that can be used to help physicians determine viral load and monitor their patients' disease progression and response to therapy.

The COBAS® AmpliPrep/COBAS® TaqMan® System is the first fully automated real-time, continuous load IVD platform, featuring sample-in, result-out capability. It is designed for those who want to increase laboratory efficiency and productivity with automated sample preparation, amplification and quantitation of RNA or DNA. For higher throughput labs, the system is available in a fully docked configuration. The HIV-1, HCV, and HBV tests on this platform have been available in Europe since 2005. The HIV-1 test was approved for use in the U.S. in May of 2007.

The full menu of tests utilizing real-time PCR technology provides excellent sensitivity, specificity and broad linear range, minimizing the need for repeated testing or dilutions.
